JPKERUAK is a firm that takes pride in providing legal services done with care, determination and integrity for its clients.

 

Established on January 15, 2015, the name ‘JPKERUAK’ is derived from the firm’s founding partners’ family names. The founding partners have envisioned the firm to be a practical, adaptive and modular platform to suit their individual law practices.

Nizam Salleh Keruak

QUALIFICATIONS

Nizam completed his Bachelor of Laws (LLB) from the University of Western Australia, Australia in 2009. In the same year, he also completed the Graduate Diploma in Legal Practice from the Queensland University of Technology, Australia and was subsequently admitted to the Supreme Court of Queensland, Australia. He continued his studies and graduated with a Master of Laws (Public Law) degree from the Queensland University of Technology, Australia in 2010.

 

Nizam returned to Sabah and began his pupillage under Dr. David Fung Yin Kee of Messrs. Alex Pang & Co, Kota Kinabalu. He was admitted as an advocate to the High Court of Sabah & Sarawak in 2011.

PRACTICE FOCUS

Nizam's practice focuses on civil litigation and representing clients in commercial business dealings and agreements. He has handled various types of legal disputes ranging from company shareholder disputes, contract, debt recovery, enforcement of judgments,  insolvency, judicial review, land disputes and trespass. He also advises on legal issues relating to joint venture agreements, sale and purchase agreements, and tenancy agreements. He has appeared in the various civil court stages, namely the Magistrates Courts, Sessions Courts, High Court, Court of Appeal and Federal Court.

Emmeline Paitin

QUALIFICATIONS

Emmeline graduated from the University of Oxford Brookes University, United Kingdom with a Bachelor of Business in 1997. She later on completed her Bachelor of Laws (LLB)(Hons.) from the University of Aberystwyth, Wales, United Kingdom in 2007 and completed the Postgraduate Diploma in Professional and Legal Skills (Bar Vocational Course) at the UWE, Bristol, United Kingdom.

 

A member of the Honourable Society of the Inner Temple, she was called to the Bar of England & Wales in 2008. She was admitted to the High Court of Sabah & Sarawak on 17 February 2010.

PRACTICE FOCUS

Throughout her career, she has built extensive expertise in banking and finance, trust matters,
joint ventures, due diligence, will drafting, estate administration, and conveyancing. She is
equally adept in handling complex family law disputes, approaching each case with a focus
on constructive resolution.

 

Guided by her core belief that no family matter is beyond amicable
settlement, she prioritises mediation as a first step, ensuring that her clients navigate sensitive
situations with care, clarity, and dignity

Wong Chik Kien

QUALIFICATIONS

Chik Kien obtained his Bachelor of Laws (LLB) from the University of Reading in 2014. He was admitted as a legal practitioner of the Supreme Court of Queensland, Australia, in 2016.

He commenced his pupilage (chambering) in May 2017 at one of the largest law firms in Kota Kinabalu and was subsequently admitted as an Advocate and Solicitor of the High Court of Sabah and Sarawak on 27 April 2018.

In 2023, he was admitted as a Partner of the firm before leaving to join JPKERUAK in January 2024.

PRACTICE FOCUS

Chik Kien has an active litigation practice and regularly appears before the Subordinate Courts, the Employment Court, the High Court, and the Court of Appeal. His practice spans a wide range of contentious and advisory matters, with particular experience in complex contractual and commercial disputes, banking and financial litigation, employment and industrial relations matters, and company-related disputes.

He also advises and represents clients in matrimonial and family law matters, including divorce, adoption proceedings, and estate administration. His litigation experience further extends to judicial review applications, injunctions and other interlocutory proceedings, enforcement of adjudication decisions under the Construction Industry Payment and Adjudication Act (CIPAA), tortious and environmental claims, goods sold and delivered disputes, as well as road traffic and regulatory offences.

In addition to active legal practice, Chik Kien contributes to legal scholarship and professional discourse. He is the author of “A Short Analysis on the Recent Decision of PJD Regency Sdn Bhd v Tribunal Tuntutan Pembeli Rumah & Anor and Other Appeals” ([2021] 3 MLJ lxxvi), in which he provides analytical commentary on this significant appellate decision
